Providing Consultation for Mechanical, Electrical Industrial & Environmental Engineering Solutions in Hong Kong

Vision & Value

Engineering design is an art of optimizing resources. M&P Consulting Engineers (HK) Ltd was established in 1979 (originally as Mao & Partners Consulting Engineers M/E) based on a simple philosophy: to provide professional engineering services with deep personal attention. We always strive for excellence. Over the past decades, M&P has pioneered several architectural and engineering innovations in Hong Kong:

  • 1979

    Founding & Core Philosophy

M&P Consulting Engineers (HK) Ltd was established based on a simple philosophy: to provide professional engineering services with deep personal attention and an unwavering focus on engineering excellence.

  • 1982

First to Introduce CSCD in Hong Kong

Introduced Combined Services Co-ordination Design (CSCD) to Hong Kong for the French International School. By tightly coordinating all mechanical and electrical services with the structure, we eliminated the need for false ceilings to conceal services. The project was highly praised by the architectural community and received the HKIA Certificate of Merit in 1984.

  • 1985

    Pioneering Energy Audits

When Mainland China was facing severe electricity shortages, M&P utilized innovative Energy Audit methodologies to design the Shantou International Hotel. This design successfully reduced the hotel’s power connection requirement by 30%, setting an early industry benchmark for large-scale energy conservation.

  • 1990

The Ultimate Standard in Ceiling Optimization

Designed the Prudential Assurance Tower with all M&E services passing directly through the beam soffits. As a result, the building height was reduced by 10%, the wind load was reduced by 20%, and the overall construction cost dropped significantly while still maximizing clear ceiling heights for tenants.

  • 1997–2001

    Patented Environmental Innovation

Commissioned by the Hong Kong Agriculture & Fisheries Department, M&P successfully carried out specialized research and development to design and patent the Tyre Artificial Reef (1997) and Marine Bio-filters (2001) to improve water quality and combat marine pollution in local fish culture zones.

  • 2002

    Asia’s Largest Bio-Filtration Koi Pond

Designed the complex underground services and advanced bio-filtration system for the 30,000 sq. ft. Koi pond at Nan Lian Garden. M&P’s filtration design certified the pond water clarity standard at NTU less than 1, proving vastly superior to the alternative Japanese engineering standard of NTU less than 3.

  • 2008

Hong Kong Government’s First Model Green Building

Designed Sing Yin Secondary School, the Hong Kong Government’s pioneer model building showcase for energy-efficient systems. The project achieved worldwide acclaim and was honored as the 2013 Greenest School on Earth by the U.S. Green Building Council.

  • 2010

First Private Consultant for HKSAR Schedule of Rates

Commissioned by the HKSAR Government to compile the Schedule of Rates – Volume 2, managing over 20,000 M&E unit rates. This marked the first time in 40 years that the government outsourced this highly critical, specialized task to a private consulting firm.

  • 2013

    First Local Hypoxic Chamber Design

Successfully designed the first locally engineered Hypoxic Chamber in Hong Kong for the Hong Kong Sports Institute, providing world-class altitude simulation training facilities for elite athletes.

  • 2021

    Green Building Award Accolades

Secured two distinct accolades at the Green Building Award 2021 for our sustainable engineering and green building consultancy on the ECO Village at Tseung Kwan O and the Conversion of ex-Sai Kung Central Primary School.

  • 2023

    HKIA Award Recognition

Delivered the advanced building services design for Mei Yun Tang at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), seamlessly integrating modern engineering infrastructure into a culturally significant academic environment to earn the prestigious HKIA Award 2023.

  • 2024
